Definición

Idling burns fuel and emits CO2 while the car goes nowhere, so start-stop systems shut the engine off the moment the car halts — at traffic lights or in queues — and fire it back up the instant the driver releases the brake or presses the clutch. In stop-start city traffic this trims fuel use and emissions by a few percent and cuts local pollution and noise. It demands a beefier starter motor and battery (usually an AGM type) to cope with frequent restarts, and is often paired with mild-hybrid systems that make the restart smoother and recover braking energy. The driver can usually disable it, and the engine stays running if conditions (such as low battery or cabin temperature) require it.
